Strathaven Model Society Ltd operates the miniature railway in Strathaven Park in South Lanarkshire. Trains run from Easter till late September at weekends, weather permitting. The steam locomotives’ first operating day was on 14th of May 1949. From then until now the miniature railway has used different modes of locomotive power (Steam, Petrol & Electric) with steam still being the most popular with young and old alike. The original locomotive from 1949 has been lovingly rebuilt and maintained and can still be seen on special occasions pulling passengers around the park in Strathaven.
All through 2019 “The Wee Train”, as it is fondly referred to by locals, celebrated its 70 years of steam in the park with great enthusiasm and paticipation from all round Britain and further afield.
In 2020 life in general has been very different due to the impact of Covid 19 but “The Wee Train”, through its committed team of volunteers has trundled on whenever Governmental H&S guidelines have permitted.
OPEN EASTER TO THE END OF SEPTEMBER AT WEEKENDS
Running times from 1 – 4.30pm.
Fares for adults and children
£1.00 per passenger
