Out with the OLD and in with the NEW.
In the last weeks of 2019 Strathaven Miniature Railway replaced our old containers which had served us well for 20+ years but had recently started to show their age.
We applied to the South Lanarkshire Renewable Energy Fund in June of 2019 and in early December were informed that we had a grant to cover 90% of the cost of new units. Thank you to Margaret Cooper for assisting us with the admin and application process.
Bright (actually a bit dreich) and early the work began. SMR “clearance” team were first on deck removing everything that had not already been placed onto the grass. Then, thanks to R F Brown, our nominated supplier, who did us proud, not only were the OLD containers extracted and taken away while the NEW containers were simultanously delivered and installed the NEW containers, but all this was accomplished in only three hours. Plus thank you to the Parks department who closed off the car park which made this complex process safer and easier for all involved.
A big “shout out” to our members who assisted in – emptying the OLD containers, preparing the ground for the installation, replacing all the equipment back into our NEW containers and clearing up all around afterwards.
We still have work to do in each of the new units but the main task of “OLD out – NEW in” was completed safely and in an amazingly good time.
Again, many thanks to all involved in bringing our storage capability into the 21st Century.
