Earlier this week, with only 22 days before the new season commences, both Margaret (the original Wee Train locomotive) and her steam counterpart Eva were put through their annual steam test before the new season starts. Both locomotives passed with flying colours and had minor servicing completed at this time. At the same time as this testing was being completed all the carriages were checked over and the paint work rubbed down ready for repainting before the season starts.
A wee reminder that weโll also be celebrating our 75th Anniversay in May this year
Would you believe it ? The Wee Train and the railway in the park will celebrate 75 years of bringing happiness to thoosands on the 14th of May 2024.

In addition there will be engines visiting from all over the UK. There will be no public passenger hauling on the day, but you are more than welcome to come along and see the all that’s on show.
Saturday 22nd June On this public running day there is a civic reception. Part of the festivities includes our provost, other council staff and invited guests, trackside at 13.00 to celebrate the anniversary. Strathaven Model Society will celebrate its 50th anniversaryย today the 12th of February ๐ The first meeting was held of the Avondale Modelling club in 1974 where like minded folk got together to build model aircraft, boats and table top railways.โ There was no involvement at that time with the railway in the park – that came later.ย ย
As far as we know there are still two of the original members from that day still with us and we intend to invite them along to the celebrationsย later this year.ย
Within today’s society we have members with 47ย plus years membershipย – Eric C, Jim L, and Martin S.โIf we have missed anybody else with this length of commitment to the society we apologise for this error.
Thank you to all our predecessors andย long term members who have kept the society going through times, thick and thin, over all these years.ย ๐
Two old photographs ๐ท of the railway have just come to light from the 1950s, one was sent to Angus, one of our members, the other was in an old file and recently rediscovered. They both show Margaret and her original carriages from that era on the original small oval track ๐ค๏ธโin the park.
Winter maintenance ๐ช๐ทโโ๏ธ continues on all our locomotives and rolling stock. Hopefully all our work will be completed for Easter holiday weekend.
From all of us at the Wee Train ๐
